These brush-sculpted seashells were formed in the beginnning days of when thicker acrylic pastes were just starting to come out on the market. This painting was made in Nov of 2000.

The thick paste deflated back then upon drying, requiring many additional layers needed to be added to form the impasto height, a true labor of work, not so easily motivated to do again.

Impasto brush-sculpted seashells were -hand-formed in this mermaid's hair by sculptural painting artist, Ruth Collis.

Use of many brilliant pearl colors. Ruth's sister loved this design so much, she ordered a giant 36x48 one with real seashells placed in it. This hand-sculpted 16x20 here, remains one of a kind sculptural painting. Hand-written notes by Ruth are on the back, & scribbles of hours noted.
